Next week we’ll be in Wales for the 2019 UK Space Conference.
The UK Space Conference is held every two years and attracted over 1,200 delegates and over 100 exhibitors when it was last held in Manchester in 2017. This is a key industry event for the UK Space Community and takes place from Tuesday 24th September to Thursday 26th September at the International Conference Centre in Newport.
The conference itself was born out of the British Rocket Oral History Programme annual event, which had been running since 1998. It was rebranded as the UK Space Conference in 2007 and its biennial approach started in 2011. Pixalytics has exhibited at every one of these events since we began, and this year is no different.
We’re exhibiting on Stand 1 in the Small Business Zone towards the back of the hall on the ground floor. At the event, we’re launching the beta version of Pixalytics Portal to allow anyone to purchase cost-effective Earth Observation products. We’ll be happy to talk to you about any of our products or services, or it would be great just to chat to old friends or to meet new ones!
It’s going to be major company event with almost all our staff attending! There is going to be one person left manning the office – but we’ve promised to bring Dean back a couple of packs of Welsh cakes as compensation! As well as exhibiting, we’re also involved in several events during the conference with two posters and two small pitches:
- Sarah has a poster on her Pixalytics Summer 2019 Space Placement in Industry (SPIN) up at the SPIN Showcase on Tuesday.
- Robert has his poster on Monitoring the Environment Through Aggregated Sentinel 1 and Sentinel 2 Derived Land Cover Mapping up on Wednesday with the presentation between 1530 and 1600 that day.
- Sam will be doing a presentation as part of the Spotlight Stage session on Thursday morning.
- Andrew is participating in the Pitch to Primes session on Wednesday.
The posters will be displayed in a room on the right, once you come through doors of the main exhibition hall.
We’ll also have copies of our book for sale, ‘Practical Handbook of Remote Sensing’. This takes complete novices through the process of finding, downloading, processing, visualising and applying remote sensing satellite data using their own PC, open-source software and a standard internet connection.
The Conference itself begins on Tuesday morning with ‘Space 101’, which is a series of workshops covering some of the key issues related to working in the space sector. The first plenary session beings at 10.00am on the future of Space in the UK and the rest of the day is full of parallel sessions, poster sessions and of course a fantastic set of exhibitors. It will be hard to choose what to go to! Talks on this first day finish at 6 pm, and then there is a networking event in the Exhibition Hall until 9 pm on Tuesday evening, and we’ll be on our stand all evening!
Wednesday is again brimming over with workshops, presentations, plenary and poster sessions, culminating in the Gala Dinner. Finally, Thursday has another busy day of workshops and plenary sessions, before the Conference closes in the afternoon.
