Have you read the top Pixalytics blogs of 2021?

Pixalytics blog 2021 WordCloudAs we reach the final blog of 2021, we’re using this week to look back at Pixalytics’ most popular blogs of the last twelve months. The question is, how many of them have you read?

Our most viewed blog of the year wasn’t written in 2021, it was instead:

  1. How many satellites orbiting the Earth in 2020? This accounting for 27% of the total blog views on the website.

The second most popular blog was written this year and it has a strangely familiar title:

  1. How many satellites orbiting the Earth in 2021?

The rest of the top ten most read blogs of the year were also not written in 2021, and contain some of our most consistently read blogs year after year. We’re pleased that our older content is still useful and helpful. So the remainder of the top ten most read are:

  1. How many satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2019?
  2. How many satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2018?
  3. Can you see the Great Wall of China from space?
  4. What do colours mean in satellite imagery?
  5. Differences between optical and radar satellite data
  6. How many satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2016?
  7. How many satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2017?
  8. Five Landsat Quirks You Should Know

Given this is a review of 2021 we also thought it would be interesting to list the most read blogs that were written this year. You already know the number one, but the rest of the top ten are:

  1. SailGP at Plymouth from space
  2. UK Space sector after Brexit
  3. New World Record for satellite launches
  4. Benefits of Earth Observation monitoring gold mining across Africa
  5. Is China the world’s Earth Observation powerhouse?
  6. PROBA roller-coaster
  7. How many Earth Observation satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2021?
  8. Cornwall to join space nations and other news!
  9. Earth Observation and Climate Change

We’ve now been writing blogs consistently for eight years, although we had a short hiatus at the beginning of 2021 and it is interesting, at least to us, to see how far and wide they are read. Looking at the WordPress stats in the last year we had views from 183 different counties/territories. We know that this is technically IP addresses, rather than purely where the reader lives, but the spread is still impressive. The top ten countries IP addresses with views of the website are:

  1. USA
  2. United Kingdom (unsurprisingly)
  3. India
  4. Germany
  5. Lithuania
  6. Canada
  7. Australia
  8. France
  9. Netherlands
  10. South Africa

We’d like to thank everyone for taking the time to read and comment on the blogs, and we hope we can catch your eye a few times again next year on the key things happening in the industry and other things we find intriguing in the world of Earth Observation and satellite data.

Warmest wishes to everyone for a Happy New Year, and a safe, successful, and hopefully better 2022!
