Top Pixalytics blogs of 2022

Blogs 2022As we reach the final blog of 2022, we’re using this week to look back at Pixalytics’ most popular blogs of the last year. Have you read all of these?

Our most viewed blog of the year was

  1. How many satellites orbiting the Earth in 2022? This accounted for 22% of the total blog views on the website this year.

Our second and third most popular blogs weren’t written this year, but they have strangely familiar titles:

  1. How many satellites orbiting the Earth in 2020?
  2. How many satellites orbiting the Earth in 2019?

We’re not sure why the satellites orbiting in 2021 were less popular than other years, but that blog was still the seventh most read. Of the remaining top ten, only one was written in 2022 and that was the ninth most read. The rest of the top ten are:

  1. Joint UK-Kenyan project to support the sustainable supply of sand and aggregate using Earth Observation data?
  2. Differences Between Optical & Radar Satellite Data
  3. What do colours mean in satellite imagery?
  4. How many satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2021?
  5. How many Earth Observation satellites are orbiting the Earth in 2021?
  6. Earth Observation Satellites in 2022
  7. Can You See The Great Wall of China From Space?

We’re always excited to see that our older content is still useful and helpful to the community. This year the sixth most read blog, on what colours mean in satellite images, was published in 2014, and has been consistently in the most read lists for the last eight years. The blog on the differences between optical and radar satellite data was published in 2016, and the blog about the Great Wall of China was published in 2017.

Given this is a review of 2022, we also thought it would be interesting to list the most read blogs written this year. You already know the top two, but the rest of the top ten are:

  1. Copernicus Sentinel-1B SAR Problems
  2. Satellite Problems and New Launches (March)
  3. Satellite Launches to Look Out For in 2022
  4. Impact on Space Industry of War in Ukraine
  5. Satellite Launches This Month (August)
  6. New Earth Observation Strategy for Canada
  7. Reducing Space Sector Carbon Footprint
  8. Tracking Marine Plastic Litter From Space

We’ve now been writing blogs consistently for nine years, and it is fascinating, at least to us, to see how far and wide they are read. Looking at the WordPress stats in the last year we had views from 174 different counties/territories. We know that this is technically IP addresses, rather than purely where the reader lives, but the spread is still impressive. The top ten countries IP addresses with views of the website are:

  1. USA
  2. United Kingdom (unsurprisingly)
  3. India
  4. Canada
  5. Australia
  6. Germany
  7. France
  8. Netherlands
  9. Spain
  10. Philippines

We’d like to thank everyone for taking the time to read and comment on the blogs, and we hope we can catch your eye a few times again next year. We’ll continue to summarise the key activities happening in the industry and other items we find intriguing in the world of Earth Observation and satellite data.

Warmest wishes to everyone for a Happy New Year, and a healthy, and successful 2023!
